3. Capacity Development
Updated by Global Symbols with UNICEF ECARO
The importance of training for professionals to successfully implement AAC within their community cannot be underestimated. Experience in different parts of the world suggests that as communication is closely related to both language and culture, it is important to match the training process and content to local needs. As a result, UNICEF with Global Symbols have created a range of resources that can be delivered face to face, online or remotely, and can be adapted and translated for use within a country.
In some cases, using external professionals to deliver parts of that training may have value where local therapists or teachers do not feel fully confident. This provides project sustainability beyond the specific technology and allows service providers to adapt and support emerging AAC.
