Charlie Danger, as a Director of Global Symbols, shares some of the links he made during the 19th Biennial Conference of the International Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (ISAAC) in Cancun, Mexico. Many discussions were around the conference theme that has been so important to Global Symbols "Communication Beyond Borders".
A member of the Global Symbols team will be at the ISAAC conference taking place in Cancun, Mexico from July 22-23, 2023, AAATE 2023 in Paris, France August 30-September 1st, 2023, Communication Matters in Leeds, UK 10-12 September 2023 and the ASHA Convention in Boston, USA 16-18 November 2023
The months have flown by and we have learnt more about the complexity of generating accurate AAC symbols using Stable Diffusion and DreamBooth when creating training data from a limited number of images.
In the last few months we have been working on our Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AAC symbol project, finding how inconsistent the pictographic images may appear in some AAC symbol sets and the impact this has on the various stages of image processing such as perception, detection and recognition.
Looking to the year ahead we are hoping we will have more resources to share and time to be creative with open licence innovations involving AAC symbols - think design and artificial intelligence!
