Introduction

Global Symbols is a website that contains Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) information, symbols, guides and resources to support those with speech, language and literacy difficulties.

In this Privacy Policy, we provide some detailed information on when and why we collect personal information, how we use it including the limited conditions under which we may contact you and how we keep data secure.

When and Why we collect personal data

We collect data when you register or login to the site. We use Cookies and Google Analytics for browsing information.  None of this data is knowingly passed onto other organisations, businesses or individuals.  We collect login data in order to contact you should issues arise with the service or we wish to provide news updates.

Types of data we collect

Website Cookies

Like most websites, LexDis uses cookies to collect information.  Cookies are “a small piece of data sent from a website and stored on the user’s computer by the user’s web browser while the user is browsing. Cookies were designed to be a reliable mechanism for websites to remember stateful information (such as items added in the shopping cart in an online store) or to record the user’s browsing activity (including clicking particular buttons, logging in, or recording which pages were visited in the past). They can also be used to remember arbitrary pieces of information that the user previously entered into form fields such as names, addresses, passwords, and credit card numbers.” (Wikipedia, 2018)

We do not use cookies to collect or record information on your name, address or other contact details, this information is only stored if you provide it via our contact forms.  Cookies are only used in conjunction with Google Analytics.

You can enable and disable the use of cookies via your browser menu system.

Google Analytics

When someone visits the Global Symbols site we use Google Analytics, to collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns. We do this to find out things such as the number of visitors to the various parts of the site. This information is only processed in a way, which does not identify anyone. We do not make, and do not allow Google to make, any attempt to find out the identities of those visiting our website.

Mailing Lists

As part of the registration process for courses and downloading resources, we collect personal information. We use that information for a couple of reasons: to contact you if we need to obtain or provide additional information; to check our records for numbers of users and to deliver certificates.  We may email you with important updates or changes to the service. We don’t rent or trade email lists with other organisations and businesses.

If we create a newsletter or blog that we wish to send out via email we may use a third-party provider, MailChimp.  For more information, please see MailChimp’s privacy notice
